Instrumentation
Ultrasound: Transit-time distance measurement and FM-CW pulse-echo. Volume flow measurement by transit-time ultrasonics and by electro-magnetic induction. Area measurement by single-turn transformer secondary and by conductimetric catheter. Cardiac right ventricular volume measurement by conductimetry.
Vascular Dynamics
Pulse wave propagation and dissipation. Vascular visco-elasticity.
Flow in Collapsed Tubes
Basic mechanics of self-excited oscillation. Applications to sphygmomanometry and microfiltration.
Nonlinear Dynamics
Analysis of aperiodic time series. Application to experimental systems. Separating noise and chaos.
Cardiac Assist
Laser velocimetry and numerical modelling of flow in ventricular assist devices. Muscle-powered pumping. Fluid-structure interactions.
Cerebrospinal Fluid Mechanics
Aetiology of syringomyelia.
