All Schools within the Faculty of Engineering have at least one Student Society. These Societies are run by students for students and are a great way to meet new friends, have some fun and get involved in your engineering field.
Some of the social events include BBQ’s, pub crawls, harbour cruises, sporting matches and movie nights.
But it’s not all social. Student Societies also provide academic and mentor support, guidance on careers and industry and in some cases liaise with School staff on a number of important matters that will directly benefit you.
And for those that want to get involved to a greater extent, you may have the opportunity to join the Society’s committee. Committee’s usually meet frequently each year and positions may include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, activities coordinator, year representatives and so on.
We encourage you to contact your Student Society and get involved. New students especially will find it can greatly assist their transition to University life. If you are a Flexible First Year student, contact one or more of the societies that you think you may have an interest in. They would be happy to welcome you.
