Faculty of Engineering Undergraduate Internal Program Transfer Procedures

Students in a number of undergraduate programs at UNSW now have the opportunity to transfer between programs internally rather than through UAC or Direct Admissions.

Popular transfers include combining a Bachelor of Science with your existing Engineering degree or changing the type of Engineering in which you are specialising. If you are currently enrolled in a combined BE/BCom you can also drop the BCom element of your degree through a Faculty of Engineering internal transfer, however you cannot add the BCom to your existing BE in this way.

Applications for Session 2, 2008 will open ONLINE on 26th May 2008 and will close at midnight on Sunday 13th July 2008.

Freguently Asked Questions:

What marks do I need to be eligible?
To be eligible to transfer internally, you must have undertaken a minimum of one semester of study in your current program (or passed more than 30 Units of Credit for Flexible First Year Program-3705 Students) and be in Good Standing. To learn more about Academic Standing please see https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/atoz/AcademicStanding.html. Transfers are subject to available places.

What programs can I transfer between?
To identify which programs can be transferred from/to internally, please refer to the Faculty of Engineering’s Schedule of Internal Transfers.

If you wish to transfer outside of the Schedule you are required to lodge a formal application through the appropriate channel (i.e. via UAC for Local students or via https://apply.unsw.edu.au for international students).

Who can I talk to for advice?
For enquiries regarding career direction you can speak to the UNSW Careers Service (http://www.careers.unsw.edu.au/) or for more specific advice on the area and/or program you are interested in transferring into you may wish to contact the relevant School Office.

For enquiries regarding the Internal Program Transfer process, eligibility to transfer or the online application form, please contact the Engineering Student Centre by email: esc@unsw.edu.au, telephone: +61 9385 5201/5131/5128 or in person in Room G02, Ground Floor of the Mechanical Engineering Building (map ref J17).

When will I find out the result of my application?
You will be notified of the result of your application via email sent to your student email address by the end of Week Zero of Semester 2.

But that’s after Semester 2 commences! What should I do about my enrolment?
If you are in Good Academic Standing at the end of Semester 1 it is recommended that you enrol as soon as possible in the courses that are required under the program that you wish to transfer to, in order to avoid missing out if classes become full or in the case that there are compulsory Week Zero activities for those courses.

If you are not in Good Academic Standing, or you are excluded from courses in your desired program, or if you have concerns regarding availability of places, please consult the School Office of the program that you wish to join before proceeding with enrolment.

Please note the following:

  1. Students should only submit an application for an internal transfer if they will be continuing with studies in the following session. If you wish to transfer programs so as to finish your degree and graduate, and will not be continuing on with studies in the following session, you should contact your School Office who will handle your transfer/graduation: DO NOT SUBMIT AN INTERNAL PROGRAM TRANSFER APPLICATION.
  2. Transfer between programs is for enrolled undergraduate students and not PG course work or research students, commencing students (within two weeks of the start of semester) or students who change residency and are seeking eligibility to Commonwealth Supported or Domestic Fee paying places.
