Diploma of Science, Engineering and Technology (DipSET)

DipSET

This diploma program provides a flexible pathway for those who have the potential to do Faculty of Engineering undergraduate programs at UNSW but have a range of gaps in their assumed knowledge and thereby do not meet the standard entry requirements. It provides an opportunity for them to broaden their scientific skills base, to strengthen their academic literacy, and to develop their critical and analytical thinking. Students who are highly motivated to study in the Faculty of Engineering but come from a range of backgrounds will find this program attractive.

Rules

Each student must take a total of 48uoc from the approved course list, including:

  • 12 uoc from the Communication sequence,
  • 6 uoc from the Computing sequence if no background in computing, and
  • 12 uoc from each of two other sequences.

Students intending to seek admission to the BE must do the Mathematics and Physics sequences.

For more information about sequences, go to: DipSET Online Handbook Entry.

Students may be permitted to substitute up to 6 uoc on approval of the program authority.

NOTES

  • Students intending to seek admission to the BE must do the Mathematics and Physics sequences.
  • The remainder of the courses required to complete the 48 units of credit should be selected from the Year 1 electives list.

Entry to UNSW Faculty of Engineering programs

On successful completion of 48 UOC in the DipSET, students who have a credit average and who have satisfied the program requirements will be permitted to articulate to an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering. On successful completion of at least 24 UOC in the DipSET, students who have successfully completed certain key BE or BSc courses whilst in the DipSET and achieved a credit average overall may apply to transfer internally to a BE or BSc program prior to completing the diploma. Any students articulating into a BE or BSc will be granted Advanced Standing for courses completed under the diploma that also satisfy the requirements of the bachelor program.

Advanced Standing

If accepted into a Bachelor program at UNSW, students will be eligible for advanced standing (credit transfer) in successfully completed courses that form part of that program.
