Our Approach

The world of today’s engineers is fast moving and ever changing. Global issues of water, energy, infrastructure, health and communications technology pose challenges that will be met by highly skilled engineers, able to work in interdisciplinary teams in multidisciplinary environments.

If you want to keep pace with the latest knowledge, cutting-edge equipment and advanced skills required by today’s marketplace, UNSW Engineering is the place to be. The Faculty of Engineering at UNSW promotes life-long learning, with continuous upgrading of knowledge and skills. Our programs offer engineers and other professionals the opportunity to specialise further in their chosen discipline or to cross train into a new discipline - the choices at UNSW Engineering are almost limitless. Professionals can begin or continue their engineering education through programs tailored to their interests and prior experience. Once fundamental engineering skills are assured, students can choose from our unrivalled selection of specialisations called Plans.

The Faculty is committed to not only develop the scientific, technical and creative skills of our students; but also help them build skills and knowledge required to lead and manage engineering activities. The latter include an ability to work in teams, an understanding of human and physical environments and a highly developed skill in communicating with other members of the profession and the public.

The Faculty of Engineering at UNSW is:

  • cutting edge: we offer a research-led curriculum incorporating the latest developments in each field. All our programs emphasise problem-solving, critical thinking, reasoning, communication, teamwork and management skills.
  • real-world focused: we have extensive links to industry and are responsive to the marketplace. Our teaching programs emphasise relevance to real-world issues in traditional areas as well as emerging fields and incorporate valuable practical experience. Faculty of Engineering staff members are often engaged as consultants to both industry and government departments, within Australia and throughout the world, to help find solutions to real-world issues.
