Casual teaching work in the Faculty varies widely. Different activities need different amounts of preparation and other work for each hour of classroom teaching time. So the Faculty management team has agreed that most casual teaching work should be now paid at the appropriate basic hourly rate, and that any additional work is identified separately rather than rolled into one of the standard higher rates for ‘tutoring’.
The Faculty of Engineering runs a tutor training each semester, with associated certification. The training consists of an initial half-day workshop at the start of each semester, and a follow-up 2 hour workshop at the end of semester. The initial workshops for semester 1 2011 took place in March. Follow-up workshops will be run in early June.
