The Faculty of Engineering at UNSW is internationally
known for pure and applied research across a broad range of
disciplines. The Faculty cooperates closely with industry,
business and the wider community in developing collaborative
research activities with an international and local impact.
Successful Research is due to both team work and the
outstanding individuals within the Faculty of Engineering.
There is a high level of cross-disciplinary cooperation essential
to the innovative research for which engineering at UNSW is
known.
UNSW consistently attracts very high levels of funding
from Commonwealth and State governments and industry. In particular
in securing Australian Research Council collaborative grants,
it is well ahead of any other Australian institution.
UNSW ranks amongst the top few Australian universities
in terms of per capita research grants and publications output
and conducts government-funded joint research with major overseas
universities.
The Faculty of Engineering plays a major role in developing
and maintaining UNSW's national and international research
status with Large ARC funded projects and Special and Collaborative
Research Centres.
Take Part in Stimulating Research in an Internationally
Respected Team
The Faculty of Engineering ensures that it is at the forefront
of good research in order to attract the best and brightest
students, and research progresses at a greater pace when there
are keen assistants to participate in the complex and challenging
work of breaking new technological ground.
Research is rarely conducted alone these days and all research
work is benefited by the presence of both students and postdoctoral
fellows operation as a team. The
Faculty has excellent facilities to support its staff and
every research student has access to their own PC (with free
email and 24-hour Internet access), and an attractive space
to study. The Faculty works closely with postgraduate students
to ensure this.
Research Graduates Enjoy a Broad Array of Career Possibilities
They work at the cutting edge of research in industry, they
are increasingly employed as managers and consultants, frequently
establishing their own companies, as well as in traditional
roles such as university academics and researchers in industrial
and government research organisations.
