The Faculty of Engineering at UNSW is internationally known for pure and applied research across a broad range of disciplines. The Faculty cooperates closely with industry, business and the wider community in developing collaborative research activities with an international and local impact.

Successful Research is due to both team work and the outstanding individuals within the Faculty of Engineering. There is a high level of cross-disciplinary cooperation essential to the innovative research for which engineering at UNSW is known.

UNSW consistently attracts very high levels of funding from Commonwealth and State governments and industry. In particular in securing Australian Research Council collaborative grants, it is well ahead of any other Australian institution.

UNSW ranks amongst the top few Australian universities in terms of per capita research grants and publications output and conducts government-funded joint research with major overseas universities.

The Faculty of Engineering plays a major role in developing and maintaining UNSW's national and international research status with Large ARC funded projects and Special and Collaborative Research Centres.

The Faculty of Engineering ensures that it is at the forefront of good research in order to attract the best and brightest students, and research progresses at a greater pace when there are keen assistants to participate in the complex and challenging work of breaking new technological ground.

Research is rarely conducted alone these days and all research work is benefited by the presence of both students and postdoctoral fellows operation as a team. The

Faculty has excellent facilities to support its staff and every research student has access to their own PC (with free email and 24-hour Internet access), and an attractive space to study. The Faculty works closely with postgraduate students to ensure this.

They work at the cutting edge of research in industry, they are increasingly employed as managers and consultants, frequently establishing their own companies, as well as in traditional roles such as university academics and researchers in industrial and government research organisations.
