the Faculty of Engineering at The University of New South
Wales (UNSW).
Scholarships are being offered to outstanding PhD students
for research programs starting in Session 1 and 2 of each
academic year. The Scholarships are being offered by all ten
schools of the Faculty of Engineering, which includes the
schools of:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Chemical and Industrial Engineering
- Civil and Environmental Engineering
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications
- Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Petroleum Engineering
- Photovoltaic Engineering
- Surveying & Spatial Information Systems
Tenure
- Scholarship holders in 2007 receive $19,616 a year for the full 3 years of a PhD program.
- Scholarship holders in 2007 undertaking a PhD are eligible for a Supplementary Engineering Award (SEA) valued at $8,000 per annum (taxable). Conditions apply. No application is required.
- Students commencing in Session 1 must commence their research
before 31 March of the same year, or the scholarship will
be allocated to another applicant.
- Students commencing in Session 2 must commence their research
before 31 August of the same year, or the scholarship will
be allocated to another applicant.
Availability
The Faculty of Engineering Research Scholarship is available
for the commencement of Session 1 and Session 2 of each academic
year.

Eligibility
- The Scholarship is only available to applicants who are
Australian or New Zealand citizens or who are permanent
residents of Australia.
- Applicants must have completed or expect to complete an
appropriate degree with Honours I or II/1 from a recognised
institution.
- Student must be commencing in their first year of a full-time
PhD research program
- Students must enrol in a full-time PhD research program
Overseas Applicants
The University administers the Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (EIPRS) scheme (funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST)) and the University International Postgraduate Awards (UIPA) scheme (funded by UNSW). Selection is based on academic achievement and research potential.
