The Faculty of Engineering honoured several Rural Scholarship
recipients by presenting them with prestigious Dean's Awards
in April 2004.

Rebecca
Barnes
Tamworth
Rebecca,
a fourth-year Faculty of Engineering rural scholarship
student studying environmental engineering, hopes
to use her degree to live and work in a third
world country.
“My passion is to go where the need is greatest,
so I will probably work in water engineering in
a developing country and combine this with Christian
missionary work,” says Rebecca. |

Shaun
Curtis
Newee Creek, Nambucca Heads
Shaun,
a fourth-year Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship
student studying electrical engineering, believes
that winning the award should improve his job
prospects.
“UNSW is nationally recognised as a leader
in the field of engineering education. Having
received recognition from such a prestigious institution
will certainly be an advantage in the workplace,”
says Shaun |

Greg
Woodham
Inverell
Greg,
a fourth-year Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship
student studying chemical engineering hopes that
his success at university will encourage other
school students from Inverell.
“Like most Year 12 kids, I wasn’t
completely sure what I wanted to do in life, and
engineering enabled me to develop a general overview
in problem solving, ” says Greg. “I
see the engineering skills I’ve developed
in my course being applied in a wide range of
fields.” |

Kearyn
Ferguson
Cudal, Orange
Kearyn, a second-year Faculty
of Engineering Rural Scholarship student studying
industrial chemistry plans to return to Cudal
after completing her degree.
“I can’t wait to go home,” enthuses
Kearyn. “I hope to use the problem solving
and analysis skills I have gained throughout studying
the degree to help small communities and rural
areas which may not otherwise get access to such
things.” |

Chris
Escott
Hallsville, Tamworth
Chris,
a 4th year Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship
student studying Electrical Engineering, was inspired
by his family to study Engineering.
“I’ve always liked science and maths,
but my grandfather who was engineer and my Dad,
an industrial arts teacher were my inspiration,”
says Chris. |
