Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships
Program
Engineering is a prestigious profession that applies technology
to solving problems which creates wealth and employment. Rural
students frequently have a strong interest in engineering
areas but are not able to study in a region close to their
home, as rural universities generally do not provide engineering
education. However, studying away from home often involves
financial hardship and accommodation difficulties.
The Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program at
UNSW is designed to assist students of high academic ability
living in rural and isolated areas to study at the leading
Engineering Faculty in Australia.
The Rural Scholarships Program consists of: approximately
20 scholarships valued at $8,500 per annum for four years
full-time study; some places in on-campus residential colleges
set aside for Rural Scholars; and an academic mentor in each
of the Faculty's Schools to assist with any problems.
2005 is the fifth year of the Faculty of Engineering Rural
Scholarships Program and we are delighted with the outstanding
abilities of our 19 Scholars from around Australia. Their
superior academic skills are matched by excellent personal
qualities and extra-curricular involvement. They will contribute
significantly to the wider life of the University and go on
to provide leadership in their careers and communities.
