Welcome
It is a requirement of professional accreditation of undergraduate
engineering degrees, and later registration of graduands as
practicing engineers that students undertake at least 60 days
of Industrial Training (also known as professional practice)
before graduating.
The Industrial Training requirement is built into a course
requirement within each engineering program. Students find
suitable employment, gain approval from the relevant School,
have their experience attested to by their employer and write
a report which is assessed by the School, and which may supplement
material used for the course related to Industrial Training.
School Offices provide basic information
about Industrial Training requirements and act as a first
point of contact for students.
School Industrial Training
Coordinators provide Industrial Training advice,
links to companies, approve Industrial Training employment
for the purposes of credit, and assess Industrial Training
reports.
Careers and Employment (http://www.careers.unsw.edu.au/)
provides a point of contact for potential employers and students,
and conducts a Campus Interview Program. While not supporting
Industrial Training directly, many companies use Industrial
Training as a recruitment tool, and potential employers are
also likely providers of Industrial Training.
