There are 3 additional assessments that must be completed during the course. These are:
Assessment 1 – Annotated Bibliography
An annotated bibliography provides a brief account of a publication on a given topic. Many researchers keep records of their reading material in an annotated format similar to an annotated bibliography.
For this assignment choose 3 journal articles relevant to your research topic. For each article, write a ½ page annotation. Also attach a bibliography list of all your reading to date. It should include at least 20 academic/authoritative texts related to your research topic/area.
Assessment 2 – Literature Review
A literature review summarises and evaluates the research that has been conducted in a particular field of study. It aims to identify the progress in the field, existing gaps and open problems, and provides the rationale for your study.
We recommend you analyse past literature reviews in theses or review journals to become familiar with this genre.
Length 20 pages (including references)
Assessment 3 – Research Proposal Report
Many projects cannot begin until a convincing proposal is submitted and approved.
The research proposal must contain sufficient detail to demonstrate:
- The need for the research (aims, problem statement and justification) ½ to 1page
- A review of the progress in the field including major concepts/theories/processes involved (succinct literature review) 20 pages
- A clear explanation of how you will proceed. 3 + pages
- Thoughtful insights into potential problems, contingencies, training or liaison required. A realistic and detailed time-line of important milestones 2 + pages
- The predicted contribution or outcome of the proposed research. ½ to 1page
- Preliminary results ( optional)
- A draft thesis chapter outline (optional) 1 page
